Project: Interactive Quiz

Client: NBCUniversal

Agency: Contently

Role: Writer

The Challenge: Celebrate the 25th anniversary of Jurassic Park through compelling user-focused content.

Solution: An interactive experience to engage fans.

Make an experience that captures fans’ excitement and nostalgia.

As a massive admirer of the original Jurassic Park movie, I knew there had to be a way to appeal to other die hard fans upon the anniversary of the classic film.

How better to capture the excitement and nostalgia than to have Jurassic Park junkies test their knowledge of famous quotes from this Spielberg blockbuster.

I pitched the idea of an interactive quote quiz to our clients at NBCUniversal. The concept leapt off the page and included a social component — fans would be able to share and compare their results.

The quiz starts with this invitation.

If I was going to harness the excitement of Jurassic Park, I needed to start with its most iconic quote - “Hold on to your butts!” It was the only way to kick off the quiz. Once users hit the start button, they immediately moved into each carefully crafted quiz question.

The client and design team at Design by Soap selected images that best represented the most famous scenes from the movie. I was part of ongoing conversations regarding the look and feel of the quiz and reviewed all stages for potential copy improvements.

Below are all ten questions with the simple buttons and interface to navigate the quiz.

Success Criteria

For the quiz results, I had to create copy for two states — one for lower scores and one for a perfect 10 out of 10. I added encouragement to invite players who scored fewer points to attempt the quiz again. For perfect scores, I harnessed social capital by asking users to share their quiz results.
